Denmark plants Trees – the first telethon focusing on the climate

14. September 2019

On September 14th 2019, we participated in the fundraising show Denmark Plants Trees, organized by TV2 and the Danish Society for Nature Conservation (DN). Here, more than DKK 20 million was collected for the establishment of new forests in Denmark.

We would like to thank TV2, DN and not least the production company TiKi Media for the collaboration before, during and after the fundraising show. It was an exciting and very educational journey.

But not least, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the individuals and companies who supported the collection. Your generosity resulted in 1,105,509 donated trees, which have subsequently been planted in 48 new community forests around Denmark. The last trees in autumn 2024 near Odense.

The story of “perhaps the world’s first fundraising show for the benefit of nature” went around the world via the news agency AFP and BBC News.

We were responsible for access to land, distributing the collected funds to the afforestation projects and subsequently being the coordinator of the planting of the forests together with the project owners at the Danish Nature Agency, municipalities and churches.

All forest was inaugurated in true Growing Trees Network fashion, with speeches, singing and hand-planting of trees followed by communal fun and catering.
