Sunset Boulevard to plant tree number 500,000

16. April 2025

On Tuesday, April 22, Mother Earth’s Day, the Danish fast food chain Sunset Boulevard will pass an impressive milestone when they and their customers round tree no. 500,000 donated to new forests in Denmark. The trees have been planted in 28 different forests across the country since 2020.

And you can join in! Together with the Danish Nature Agency and Sunset Boulevard, we invite you to a festive inauguration of Gørløse Folkeskov. Bring friends and family to plant the last trees. We have plant sticks you can decorate and put alongside one of your planted trees.

In 2020, Sunset Boulevard made an important strategic decision to scrap the distribution of plastic toys along with their children’s menus and instead donate trees per children’s menu sold. Just as learning about wildlife in the forest was added to their tray napkin, web universe and brand.

“We think it is impressive that with their initiative they have now helped to raise more than 125 hectares of new forest in Denmark together with their customers, and we would like to pay tribute to that by planting a slightly larger oak tree and a lot of smaller trees on the day with everybody.”

Thank you so much to Sunset Boulevard and their advertising agency THE UNICORN for a fantastic collaboration over the past 5 years.

We would like to see registration no later than April 18 via this link, but you are also welcome to just show up.

Planting is being done at Lystrupvej east of Gørløse. If you are local, please consider to come by bike. There is parking at skovfogedvej 1 in Slangerup, from where there are arrows to the planting site.

Sunset Boulevard has donated the 30,250 trees and shrubs to Gørløse Folkeskov, which are currently being planted at two locations. Together we hand-plant the last 500 trees, hear a few speeches and sing a forest song. Afterwards, you can make pancakes over a fire. A fun day, not least for families with children. The Danish Nature Agency is ready with lots of trees, children’s and adult spades, instruction and pancake mix.

About the land Gørløse Folkeskov is planted on
The forest will be part of Gørløse Forest, which is a reforestation area under establishment at Uvelse between Hillerød and Slangerup north-west of Copenhagen. The first trees were planted in 2006. The Danish Nature Agency currently has approx. 100 hectares in Gørløse Forest and the goal is that the forest will eventually become over 200 hectares. Gørløse Forest is established in collaboration between the Danish Nature Agency, the Copenhagen Utility Company (HOFOR), and Hillerød Municipality. Areas are purchased when possible.
