Growing Trees Network wins Groundwater Award in 2015

It was with great pride that we received VandCenter Syd’s Groundwater Award 2015, just 2 years after we succesfully established the first forest with our partners. The road to get there was not easy, so to be awarded the award so early in our process was a recognition that motivated us going forward.

“Growing Trees Network is not only rewarded for their innovative ideas, but just as much for their focus on afforestation. Afforestation is an important method when it comes to protecting large aquifers. Forests ensure that the soil is kept free of pesticides, so that clean drinking water can be preserved. An amendment to the Water Sector Act has made it easier for water companies to raise forests for groundwater protection. The Growing Trees Network is a good example of how to raise forests in an alternative way.”

Background for the award
The award is named after engineer G.O. Andrup, who was the director of the then Odense Water Supply. Through his involvement, he focused on drinking water quality and the importance of protecting groundwater. G.O. Andrup’s Groundwater Award was established in 2007 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the appointment of the visionary director. The prize consists of DKK 60,000 and a diploma and is awarded once a year.
